Upon meeting new people: “Your Turkish is great. How long have you lived here? Only 2 ½ years. That is amazing! How did you learn it so quickly? My cousin has a Russian/British/American neighbor who has lived here for much longer and her Turkish isn’t nearly as good.”
My current friends: “Man, your Turkish was so much better before you had Natalie and Sophia. It’s probably because you can never leave the house. Or maybe because you are sleep-deprived. You could understand more last summer. Your Turkish has really gotten weak.”
These comments definitely provide motivation to study Turkish! (Currently I'm reading Beauty and the Beast! It's my favorite of the Disney movies.)
