Turkish Delights: Professional pictures

Most professional photos are done at 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, or the year marks. Not many people have their babies’ pictures taken at 7 months. We couldn’t decide whether to have their photos taken at 6 months real age or adjusted age. If it had been real age, they wouldn’t have been able to do much. So, we decided to split the difference.

We spent some time looking around for photographers who were willing to give us the digital files. Most just give albums, and if you want any pictures printed, they are really expensive. The whole thing was an experiment anyway, and we didn’t want the experiment to be that expensive.

Scott found a guy willing to do the session with each of them individually and together for $100 total. We booked a time on Sunday when traffic would be sparse and we could get to the studio in less than 10 minutes.

On that Sunday morning, Natalie and Sophia woke up a little late. I let them sleep, because I thought the more well-rested, the better. Scott called the studio and said we would be late, arriving in 20 minutes. He asked if the photographer had arrived yet. The answer was, “He’s on his way.” That should have been our first clue that he was going to be late....really late! We arrived 20 minutes later, and as we walked through the door, the employee picked up the phone to call the photographer. He then kindly offered us some tea. The photographer showed up nearly a ½-hour later.

It seems like this happens quite frequently here. Even with an appointment, they don’t believe you will actually show up until you....well, actually show up. Then they kick into high gear.

The photographer was good. Unfortunately, the only “prop” was the couch (pictured), and they both barely fit on it.

Apparently, infants aren’t photographed much here. The studio walls were covered in photographs, but it looked like a 1-year-old was the youngest on the wall. The photographer spent most of the session commenting on how smiley Natalie and Sophia were and musing in amazement at how good his pictures were going to turn out.

I’m a little disappointed we didn’t get any great pictures of the two of them together. But, what can one expect? They were approaching over-tired, and I spent most of my time making sure they didn’t fall off the couch.
